Implementation Development with Phidgets and Trampoline

Ok looks like Estelle is gonna start this new thread yayyyy! =]

Actually the reason why I have done this is because I've taken over a bit of the responsibility this weekend as far as implementation goes. For the rest of the group who are not aware, Candy and I approached Floyd in the last lecture and aquired the UBER box of Phidgets; they are now in my possession.

This means that we have to start learning how to use the damn things -_- Candy did a presentation on Arduino (similar thing) so there's a start; she knows the basic concept of it. The reason why I have taken them for the weekend is because Nathan is very tech-savvy so I thought we would experiment and try to figure them out Saturday night. However, I would like to encourage the team as a whole to do a bit of research and learn how to use them. Sure we have Luke in our course, but we also want to do this as a group, help each other out, and we'll even learn a hell of a lot if we teach ourselves. Floyd explained a little bit about the software used to connect them to the laptop but I still need to get my head around it :S

When we start learning how to use them, we can further understand what exactly it is we want to DO with them. We need to figure out a relationship between the tramploine and technology....

On that note, I just wanted to recap my appaling disappointment in so-called "Big" W, and the previously thought "major" Target franchise, for their surprising lack of tri-mam-pol-ines (to quote Homer J. Simpson). Myself, Candy, Mikey and Nick Sanders ran half way around Burke St and God knows where trying to find one until poor Nick suffered severely in health =[ Candy suggested buying one online, however I will go to Rebel Sport tomorrow night after Uni; if Rebel doesn't have one, I'll be damned if I were to call that place a "sports store". If I do obtain one, I'll buy it and we'll split the cost even alright people?

Please use this thread to post whatever reasearch/understanding/scripts/software you have found regarding the Phidgets. It would help me a lot on Saturday night. Also post any thoughts/ideas on how we might use them, in relation to our fun trampoline.

  1. Also to note that if need be we will host a meeting together to properly look at the Phidgets. Someone may need to provide a laptop to this meeting.

  2. I also jokingly thought with Candy of taking the liberty to look at velcro suits. You know, jump high and then attatch yourself to a velcro wall. HELLA FUN. It would be my dying wish to try that out :|

  3. Great work Estelle!
Ok so all seems pretty sweet, i honestly think as soon as we get the trampoline we can play with and develop new ideas! The velcro suits idea seem freiken heaps of fun!! haha
:) we shall look into it for sure. Shattered we couldnt find the trampoline thursday at big w or target. To implement technology into our game we shall look into different devices and yes as said by stel; program it to work in reference to our game .

  4. i actually think that the velcro idea would be awesome i mean fair enough its going to be a bitch finding industrial strength velcro but im sure you can get like metres of that stuff at spot light, people from jackass do it to a moving truck so ill have to have a look at how they did that if we want to take that idea a step further.

at my grandmas house i have a pretty big trmpoline but some of the springs are broken, i could take the black matt off that and use it for our project and i could go to bunnings and buy some strings if we want to make one ourselves (dunno how safe it will be though) if not its avaliable if we find some use out of it, as far as meeting up, im more than happy to come in on a monday or even before class or stay back if we want to get together.

i think it should be important that by the start of the week we have a clear understanding of what we would like to do for a project

nw peace out and have a productive weekend

  5. Yeah I know, the problem is we might be getting way ahead of ourselves and our budget with Velcro, as awesome as it sounds.... Nevertheless, I did a quick bit of research on the net and apparently you can hire suits and velcro walls LOL, but it's fair pricey =[
