TIME FOR A SECOND GAME

I asked everyone on Thursday night to post up at least ONE GAME IDEA EACH by MONDAY so that we can decide which to do NEXT WEEK and start working on it.
SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:
-If we lost marks for anything last time round it was probably not updating our blog enough, and maybe not properly researching our game's implementation (As 4 square apparently doesn't work how we thought).
-Consider using more tech in this game. We are here to learn new things and push ourselves so it might be useful to do something new/challenging given that Hunter had a simple implementation.
-Give everyone's ideas some thought and think of how they could be changed to make them better.

GOGOGO MORE IDEAS!!!!!

  1. Just going to add my idea up here.
I'll draw a diagram to show you guys at some point as it seems like you couldn't visualise what I was thinking of.
I'm going to post up my initial idea before we talked about it on Thursday so then you guys can add in yourselves what you said then.
My idea is a bit like large scale wack a mole. In an empty room sort of space there would be small little trampolines set out at random not too far from each other. These would have sensors connected to a computer as well as lights. A program on the computer would light them up in random order for a short time each. A player would have to jump onto the lit trampoline before the light went to a different in order to 'wack the mole' and earn points. In a two player version both players would be aiming for the same trampoline as they would only light up one at a time.
We don't have to use trampolines we could use any type of thing that can be made sensitive some how, I just thought having something actually bouncy would be more fun! =D
Here is the type of trampoline I was envisaging. Could be a budget issue though

I hope my idea is a bit clearer now. Can't wait for everyone else's!

  2. I love the idea of whac-a-mole Candy and I think the 'bouncy' concept is creditable in order to add just that little bit more fun to the game. Also, jumping around while aiming for lights is certainly very exertive!

I'm just concerned with the use of trampolines and their springs causing potential harm. I mean, it's one thing to be active in an exertion game, another to actually end up in pain from too much physical activity or endangering one's self. Is there the possibility that we can obtain trampolines that cover the strings? I know there are the 'Springfree' types, but they are only large; I don't know if they come in the small size we're looking for. Food for thought.

Also, I second your opinion that we need to implement some form of technology this time round. Even though none of us are experts in the area of Arduino and Phidgets, I'm pretty sure university is the perfect opportunity for us to go out of our comfort zone, and learn some new things.

  3. ok guys so i have this idea, i got the idea from kanes group where they used the wiis balance board, to swim, they cused leaning and paddling with the nunchucks and the wii mote to move the character, i was thinking of using these ideas with the foundation of slime soccer.

slime soccer is a flash game that is extremely fun and funny, it is a 2 player game. here is the link

    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bartle/soccer/

so what we could do is have 2 wii balance boards and 2 sets of wiimotes and nunchucks, then you have to wave the controller up and down in order to get your character to move, and then you lean left and right in order to get your character to move left and right and you could pump up your arms in order to get the character to jump.

this would be a perfect exercise to work our your obliques (the muscles next to your abs). as far as getting the the audience's attention. we could do an advertisement like the ones they have at 9am news or something like that.

we would definitely have to change the flash game around but the idea of a goal and getting a ball into the goals is really good, we could draw up some characters with the tablet and get someone to use flash for the animations.

    just an idea

  4. On Nick's game:
I was thinking some more about this, mostly how we could make it a bit simpler. What if we attached a wiimote to a hat or something so that it sits on the player's head. Then you jump up and down to make your character jump. you could then lean from side to side/walk sideways to make it move back and forwards. I love the idea but for this to be the sort of thing I'd play it would need simpler/fewer movements. Having just 2 wiimotes would be easier then all that other stuff too wouldn't it? Remember how much trouble the extreme swimming group had with their presentation?

  5. On Candy's idea; whilst the trampolines add a fun element, acquiring a room full of them let alone 1 sounds like a complete logistical nightmare. Also even with all the trampolines and sensors, the game still poses a total OHS and insurance nightmare too. Trampolines are fun, but I feel the possibility for players to hurt themselves on the game itself is too great. If the game could be implemented another way, such as marked areas, NOT raised off the ground, then it would solve both the problem of acquiring the hardware and that of the potential danger to players.

Nick's idea is pretty clever too, the soccer game has a lot of innate strategy which adds to the level of fun in it, supposing we use a similar flash to portray it. Although the presentation as we saw from the swimming game, seems to be a problem.

  6. Hey guys!
Quite like both ideas; as for our slime soccer interpretation idea, the wii controllers could work quite well and be extremely fun for those who sample the game! Nick and I have played the game together a series of times; you don't realise how fun it is until you play it multi player which most of the top wii games are :D! It will also give us the ability to explore flash and such for the first time for our group.
I also had an idea of balloon-nest game which I shared with you all on Thursday involving 2 or more teams or 2 or more players on each team; each team owning a nest/base. A series of balloons are present in the middle of the area and each team start with a series of them as well... This ultimately following a similar concept of the mini game featured in DiddyKongRacing on N64 but presented in an exertion game form... The collection of the balloons take place either stealing from another team or from the centre... the winner can be determined for multiple reasons such as no balloons remaining in your nest or collecting a number of balloons or a time limit could be implemented...
Anyway; we have a series of different ideas which we need to decide on one, or link different thoughts together and further refine it...
